Set up MIDI control

MIDI can recall presets, toggle effects, control the looper, choose modes, and set volume on Stratus and Nimbus.

Connect the hardware

Stratus is a USB MIDI device: connect its USB-C port to a MIDI-capable USB host. A controller’s ordinary USB device port is not enough by itself. Nimbus has different hardware connections; see controller and connection compatibility.

Stratus: direct USB host connection

MORTRIX and Morningstar MC6 Pro provide a built-in USB host connection. M-VAVE Chocolate Plus also supports a direct connection when powered over USB-C by a battery bank or wall power supply.

Stratus: connection through a USB host adapter

For a controller without the required USB host connection, use a USB MIDI host adapter between its MIDI output and Stratus USB-C. The Chaos Audio edition Knot is the only officially supported adapter. See the full supported-controller list and connection requirements for your exact model.

Prepare the app and controller

1. Connect the app and set the MIDI channel. Configure the controller to send on that same channel.
2. Sync the desired preset list to the hardware.
3. Program a simple test: Program Change 0 recalls the first preset. Some controllers display that as program 1.
4. Add the CC messages you need from the implementation chart.
5. Test before disconnecting the app or taking the rig on stage.

What MIDI does not do

MIDI sends control messages; it does not carry guitar audio. Sharing MIDI features between Stratus and Nimbus does not make their USB port roles or physical routing identical.
