Save, back up, and sync presets

By Landon McCoy · Updated October 3, 2026

Saving a preset, backing it up to your account, and syncing it to hardware are three different actions.

Applies to: Stratus and Nimbus.

Three copies. Three different jobs.. App preset: Edit the chain, controls, and saved sound. Account backup: Keep your personal presets across devices. Hardware list: Recall synced sounds without the phone. Back up local changes before account refresh; refresh can replace local edits.

Save and back up

  1. Create a sound on Pedalboard and save it as a preset.
  2. Stay signed into the same Chaos Audio account with internet access for personal backup/sync.
  3. On another device, open My Presets and let the account synchronize before editing.

Latest sync behavior

Preview: Recent app updates synchronize preset order and improve recovery from partial failures. Pull-to-refresh in My Presets mirrors the account’s list, including deletions. It is not an independent backup or a way to recover unsynced local work. Save and back up important edits before refreshing or signing out.

Sync for playing without the phone

  1. Connect the target hardware.
  2. Arrange the preset list and choose the hardware sync action, labeled Sync with Stratus in some app versions.
  3. Wait for presets and any required effects to finish transferring.
  4. Test recall on the device or MIDI controller before your session. Reordering the list changes MIDI Program Change positions. Repeat hardware sync after adding, editing, deleting, or reordering presets; saving a change in the app does not automatically update the onboard list.

Personal backup versus public sharing

Personal sync does not publish your sounds to the community. Public sharing is a separate action. Presets containing privately uploaded NAM/IR files cannot be shared publicly through Chaos Cloud; see private file uploads.

Export a portable backup

  1. Open Presets and choose Export.
  2. Select the presets you want to keep, then confirm Export.
  3. Use your phone’s share/save options to store the preset file in Files, send it to yourself, or keep it in another backup location.

To restore a saved file, choose Import on Presets and select that file. Check the imported sounds and install any required effects, NAMs, or IRs. A preset file describes the chain and settings; it is not a transferable license or a complete backup of every effect binary and private audio/model file. Keep your original private files separately.

Try community Cloud presets

My Presets is your personal collection. The Cloud tab shown in the tutorial contains public presets made by Chaos Audio and the community; it is separate from personal account backup.

  1. Open Presets → Cloud and choose a preset.
  2. Choose Load in Pedalboard and let any required downloads/installation finish while the hardware is connected.
  3. Check enabled/bypassed effects, capture choices, and listening level, then try the sound.
  4. Save your own copy in My Presets, arrange it where you want it, and sync to hardware for onboard recall.

Public TONE3000 library items may be used in eligible public presets. Privately uploaded NAM/IR files remain subject to the public-sharing restriction above.
